The way to reach the hill is either on foot or with combis climbing madly around curves .
Shortly after the founding of the city of the Kings , capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru , the Spaniards placed a large wooden cross on the hill nearest civilization circulating the city. This first cross of San Cristobal, was shattered by the Incas during the siege of Lima in 1536 , under the patronage of the Sun and the tutelary deities of Tawantinsuyo.
That cost dozens of lives Hispanics , and countless indigenous allies and black slaves ; Shortly after breaking the entire siege of Lima, Pachacamac furious battles were fought and Rumichaca and flood many horses . By then, Francisco Pizarro , after the immediate danger of assault to the city and taking the shadows of the night, had ordered that the summit "is set on it, another cross as the Indians away ." Soon that hill with the name of San Cristobal was baptized , because in his day the battle was won .

During the Republic were many proposals to install a single track that would enable the promotion. In the early twentieth century, the project, which was approved by the government , which allowed the construction work between the Paseo de Aguas and the hilltop was developed. Extensive cable pulling the foothills a slide iron chairs , where about six people could fit comfortably seated. Unfortunately, the maintenance and the high cost of construction detracted administration because few people used it.
